Indian badminton icon Saina Nehwal clung on to her number three spot in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.
Nehwal, who has been having a lackluster 2013 so far, will be featuring in the inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) for Hyderabad Hotshots.
It may be worth recalling that the badminton icon had made early exits in the recent Thailand and Djarum Indonesian Open tournaments, where she lost in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.
India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap also retained his last week’s ranking of 13. He will seen in the IBL turning out for Banga Beats.
Barring a quarterfinal finish in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships, Kashyap has had little to show for his efforts in 2013.
PV Sindhu, who won the Yonex Malaysian Open – her maiden senior singles crown – and later opted out of the Djaram Indonesian Open, retained her last week’s ranking of 12.
Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt retained his last week’s ranking of 21.
Ajay Jayaram, who reached the quarterfinals of the Sunrise Indian Open and the Skycity New Zealand Open earlier in the year, held on to his 24th spot.
Sourabh Varma was another Indian shuttler to retain his last week’s ranking of 36th.
Same was the case with B Sai Praneeth and K Srikanth, both of whom retained their last week rankings of 40th and 41st positions respectively.
Anand Pawar, son of former India international Uday Pawar, also stayed put at 43rd spot.
HS Pranoy retained his last week’s ranking of 51.
Arvind Bhat cling on to his 71st spot.
Old warhorse Chetan Anand retained his last week’s ranking of 102.
Among the other Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane, stayed put at 53rd.
PC Thulasi retained her last week’s ranking of 65.
Tanvi Lad was placed 81st while Sayali Gokhale was placed 98th.
