The Commonwealth Games has been splendid for the Indian contingent, who have won a total of 59 medals so far.
Team India has been guaranteed another medal in the Women’s Badminton Singles, with Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu setting up a battle for Gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The final day of the Gold Coast event has arrived, and it consists of all medal-winning matches.
The eleventh day of the CWG is perhaps the biggest competition for the country - a clash between the nation’s two top shuttlers, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, as they take the stage at the Women’s Singles Final on Sunday.
The final of the event will witness an all-Indian contest for the very first time in Commonwealth history. The two players are the only Indian badminton players to have won medals at the Olympics.
While Sindhu stomped past defending Champion Michelle Li of Canada, beating Li in straight games with identical scores that read 21-18 twice, Saina overcame a firm challenge from Scotswoman, Kirsty Gilmour, as she beat Kirsty 21-14,18-21,21-17, in Gold Coast.
Ranked at No.3 and No.12 spots on the world rankings, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal (respectively) set up an all-Indian women's singles final in the competition at the 21st Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
Both the Indian shuttlers kept their unbeaten runs up and running and their wins over lower-ranked rivals went on predictable lines. The Women's Singles Final will take place on Sunday after the Mixed Doubles Final that begins at 4:30 am IST.
