Arvind Bhat progressed into the second round of the German Open after his opponent Scott Evans retired after losing the first game 21-9. P Kashyap however went down to Malaysian Derek Wong 21-15 23-21. Ajay Jayaram also lost, to Simon Santoso of Indonesia 21-19 21-19, but Anand Pawar beat Eetu Heino of Finland 21-12 21-16.
