Nine Indian players will be participating in the Kumpoo Macau Open 2013 tournament which will be held in the city of Macau from 26th November to 1st December. This USD 120,000 tournament is a Grand Prix Gold category tournament and is the last Grand Prix Gold tournament of the year.
Indian teenage badminton sensation and World Championships bronze medalist P.V Sindhu is the top seeded player in the women’s singles category. PV Sindhu, who slipped to World No. 11 in the latest BWF World Rankings will take on the World No. 182 Korean shuttler Kim Soo Jin in the opening round of the tournament.
Another Indian shuttler P.C Thulasi had a tough task in the opening round as she will be up against the 2nd seed and World No. 18 Nichaon Jindapon of Thailand in the first round.
Ranked 127th in the world, Sayali Gokhale will battle it out with the 8th seed and World No. 6 Taipei shuttler Cheng Chi Ya in the opener.
In men’s singles category three Indian players will be in action. 10th seed and World ranked 140, young Indian badminton star B.Sai Praneeth will play the unseeded Korean shuttler Kyu Choi Sol in the first round.
Sourabh Verma, who is currently the World No 62 will take on the World No. 821 local shuttler Hok Man Lou while World No. 46 H.S Prannoy will lock horns with the World No. 119 Indonesian shuttler Andre Marteen in the first round of the tournament.
In women’s doubles, the 2011 World Championships bronze medalist pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa will take on the World No. 64 Taipei pair of Pei Rong Wan and Kuo Yu Wen in the opening round.
In mixed doubles the 7th seeded and World ranked 37 Indian pair of Tarun Kona and Ashwini Ponappa will take on the World no. 88 Chinese pair of Huang and Chen in the first round.
There is no Indian participation in the men’s doubles category of the tournament.
