As a fun, mini battle that also wore an outlook of a special training session prior to the high-voltage clash between India's PV Sindhu and Ratchanok Intanon, the ace Hyderabad shuttler took on her coach Pullella Gopichand in a 'double-shuttle' game. The match seemed to evoke a couple of smiles from both which was quite evident in a video posted by Yonex Sunrise India on their official Twitter account.
Through the video, it can be seen that Gopichand, occupying one half of the court lobs the first shuttle onto Sindhu's side who returns it with ease while another shuttle makes it's way to Sindhu's court and so on.
World No. 4 Sindhu, who was the only Indian remaining in the Indian Open singles draw ahead of the semi-finals, looked comfortable while returning coach Gopichand's slow yet effective lobs in the training ahead of the all-important clash.
While the special training module was taken in good humor by both Sindhu and Gopichand, the method seemed to work out on matchday as Sindhu decimated Thailand's Intanon 21-13, 21-15 in two straight sets to set up a final clash that also doubled up as her second consecutive final appearance in two outings at the Indian Open.
Right through the semi-finals, Sindhu's powerful smashes came to the fore as she raced away to an 11-3 lead early in the first half before a comeback from Intanon delayed her first set win.
The second game witnessed some resurgence from Intanon, who had a 4-2 win record against Sindhu prior to the game but Sindhu's perseverance saw her maintain the lead that ultimately converted into a win as the crowd was sent into a tizzy.
