Indian men’s badminton team qualified for the finals of Thomas Cup badminton. to be played at Malaysia.India thrash Vietnam 3-0 to reach in the finals of Thomas Cup. Arvind Bhat, P Kashyap and Anup Sridhar won thier respective matches which was enough to enter the last four stage of the Asia Zone preliminary stage which ensured them a place in the finals of the Thomas Cup. It is scheduled in Kuala Lumpur from May 9-16, 2010.P Kashyap beat Nguyen Hoang Nam 20-22, 21-10, 21-18 in the first singles match.Anup Sridhar beat Huynh Vinh 21-13, 21-6Arvind bhat beat Hieu Pham Cao 16-21, 21-7, 21-10.Thus taking invincible 3-0 lead (best of 5- 2 doubles match called off).
India will face Korea in the semifinal on 26th Feb 2010.
While Indian women’s team beat Philippines 5-0 in Uber Cup. Saina Nehwal beats Ann Venice 21-9, 21-13 . Sayali Ghokale defeated Castilo Gelita 21-9, 21-16. Trupti Murgunde defeated Nicole Magno Dia 21-4, 21-8. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa beat Alcala Malvinne Ann Venice and Castilo Gelita 21-15, 21-11. Saina and Aparna Balan beat Magno Dia Nicole and Cruz Jamila Fatima 21-9 21-13 to complete the whitewash.India women’s team will face Chinese Taipei next in do or die match, and win will ensure them a place in funals of Uber Cup.
