India’s Kidambi Srikanth progressed through to the final of the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in Lucknow after beating Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-14 21-7 in the semifinals of the competition on Saturday.
The opening game saw the Indian get off the blocks quickly as he took an early 6-2 lead before stretching that advantage to 11-5 at the interval mark. The other side of the interval saw the Indian assume control of proccedings as he won 6 points on the trot to go 17-6 up before losing 6 poinbts of his own to allow Ponsana to narrow the gap to 5 at 12-17.
However, Srikanth ensured that there were no further hiccups and went on to win the opening game 21-14.
The second game proved to be a very one-sided affair in favour of the Indian as he looked in cruise control mode from the word-go, racing away to an 8-2 lead before continuing to ease his way towards a convincing win, allowing no chance for Ponsana to take control at any point and eventually winning the game 21-7 to book a place in the finals of the competition.
The Indian will play Huang Yuxiang in the summit clash on Sunday.
