World No.3 and third seed in the competition Kidambi Srikanth moved into the second round of the Chinese Taipei Open, after beating Tzu Weng Tai of ChineseTaipei 21-17 21-15 in the opening round on Wednesday.
The first game began with both players, going head-on, but at the 5-5 mark, the Indian took the lead and at regular intervals, kept pegging his opponent back, piling on the pressure and eventually took the opening game 21-17.
Despite beginning on a disappointing note in the second game, Srikanth bounced back spectacularly to go from being 2-8 down to square the game 9-9 and then won yet another streak of 7 points on the trot to go from being tied at 12-12 to go 19-12 up. That stretch of points, all but finished all chances of Tai making a comeback into the contest and he eventually succumbed 21-15 in the second game.
The win comes as a major boost for Srikanth, considering that he hasnt been at his most consistent in the previous few tournamets. The Guntur-based shuttler lost in the second round of the Indonesia Open last month to World No.166 Githing Anthony of Indoensia and also didnt have the greatest of times at the Sudirman Cup, prior to that, where in the clash against Malaysia, he lost the decisive match to former World No.1 Lee Chong Wei.
He will now be up against Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia in the second round.
Final Scoreline- K Srikanth(IND) beat Tzu Weng Tai(TPE) 21-17 21-15.
