After two commanding victories over Vietnam and Philippines in their opening matches at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, the Indian team suffered a lackluster loss against Indonesia today (June 30). However, despite this, their earlier group-stage wins have already assured them of a spot in the quarter-finals.
With this tie against Indonesia having little effect on the team's path moving forward, India started off with an experimental combo in the mixed doubles, replacing Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala Kalagotla with Vansh Dev and Shravani Walekar.
Unfortunately, Dev and Walekar suffered a straight games loss to Taufik Aderya and Clairine Yustin Mulia.
Up next, India fielded Dhruv Negi in the men's singles match, marking the youngster’s first outing at the Gor Among Raga. Negi fought Indonesia’s Bismo Raya Oktora for over an hour before falling short 14-21, 21-11, 11-21.
Meanwhile, the women's singles also saw a new player on court, with Navya Kanderi in action against Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari. The 17-year-old pulled off India's only victory of the day when she beat her Indonesian counterpart 21-19, 21-19 in 47 minutes.
On the doubles end of things at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, the women's doubles duo of Vennala Kalagotla and Shravani Walekar were handed their first defeat of the competition as they lost to Isyana Syahira Meida and Rinjani Kwinara Nastine.
Elsewhere, the men's doubles pair of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu were shown the door by Anselmus Breagit Fredy Prasteya and Pulung Ramadhan.
