The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has conducted a trailblazing Coaches Development Program in association with REC Limited and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), focusing on fostering grassroots-level coaches. This initiative strives to standardize coaching methods and develop a strong channel of future badminton talents.

The Coaches Development Program which commenced on June 25 has concluded on Friday, July 5, coinciding with World Badminton Day. The program was held at the National Centre of Excellence (NCE) in Guwahati, Assam, and Raipur, Chhattisgarh. A total of 53 participants from 22 states across India took part in the program. Taruna Gupta, Executive Director of the REC Foundation, graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest.

What are the functions of the Coaches Development Program?

Sanjay Mishra, Secretary General of the Badminton Association of India, stressed the function of the Coaches Development Program in identifying and cultivating talent from the initial phase. He emphasized that this initiative trains coaches with essential tools to spot future talents and support their growth. He also mentioned another program conducted by BAI in March this year across four cities in India simultaneously.

“Grassroots coaches play a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing talent at an early stage. This program equips them with the tools to identify potential stars and lay the foundation for their development. We thank REC and SAI for this collaboration with BAI and supporting us in this initiative," said Mishra in a statement.
“We conducted a similar program earlier in the month of March simultaneously at four cities- Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Raipur and Guwahati which was attended by around 100 participants including few former players. Participants in their feedback expressed gratitude to the BAI-REC-SAI partnership for the program’s comprehensive approach. They emphasized how it deepened their understanding of coaching nuances and praised the program’s practical insights,” he added.
