Giving India a strong opening day at the Canada Open 2024 were Krishna Prasad Garaga and Sai Pratheek. The two were the only shuttlers from the country to take to the court on Tuesday, July 2, and they did not disappoint.
Garaga and Pratheek were the last players in action for the day on court 2 of the Markin MacPhail Centre and went out guns blazing. The men's doubles duo was up against Lap Kan Kern Pong and Larry Pong, and the first game was as exciting a battle as possible.
The pairs traded blows back and forth, the scoreline never really favoring one more than the other. However, towards the end, Garage and Pratheek were able to dig deep and clinch four straight points to win 21-19.
That last push carried into their second game, where the Indians were phenomenal. They jumped out of reach of their opponents early in the game and continued that momentum to seal the deal 21-12. Overall, Garaga and Pratheek needed only 30 minutes to wrap up their first match at the Canada Open, leaving them in good shape for their upcoming rounds.
