Thursday brought a slew of defeats for the Indian badminton contingent at the Canada Open, with only Priyanshu Rajawat and Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand surviving the test. The two successfully moved ahead, marking their second consecutive quarterfinals in as many weeks.

Rajawat started out his campaign in Calgary against eight seed Rasmus Gemke, taking down the Dane in a lengthy match. On Thursday, he was up against Japan's Takuma Obayashi and needed only two games to pull through.

The match started out slow for Rajawat, putting the Indian in a small deficit before the mid-game interval. However, he soon made his way back, leaping ahead four points at a time to take a 21-19 victory.

The second game was a very different story. Rajawat had found his rhythm and bounded ahead to a 11-4 lead. From then on, there was little Obayashi could do but watch as his opponent stormed to a 21-11 victory.

While Priyanshu Rajawat had a slow start to the first half of his game at the Canada Open, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand's slump lasted a little longer.

The Indian third seeds were up against World No. 67 Natasja P. Anthonisen and Alyssa Tirtosentono and lost the opening game 21-17. While fans clamored at the edges of their seats, Jolly and Gopichand kept a cool head to pull through 21-7, 21-8 over the next two games.

Elsewhere at the Canada Open, India's campaign in all three other events came to a close as Krishna Prasad Garaga/Sai Pratheek, Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, Tanya Hemant, and Anupama Upadhyay all made their exits on Thursday.
