Day 2 of action at the Denmark Open has concluded, and it brought with it some disappointing results for India. Of the nation's four shuttlers on court today (October 16), none were able to make it through to the next round.
Getting the day started for India in Odense was the women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand. The duo were pitted against Malaysian fifth seeds Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, and had their work cut out for them going into the match.
The Indians got off to a strong start, clinching the first game after a close battle. However, Tan and Muralitharan were quick to fight back, forcing a decider before taking the win 19-21, 21-17, 21-15.
Elsewhere, Sumeeth and Sikki Reddy were the only other Indian doubles pair in action today. The two faced World No. 199 Kevin Lee and Eliana Zhang, and were the unanimous favorites for the win.
However, the Canadians were incredible on court at the Denmark Open, coming from a game down to outdo their higher-ranked opponents.
Meanwhile, India didn't fare any better on the singles end of things in Odense on Wednesday. Unnati Hooda was shown the door by Lauren Lam, while Sathish Kumar Karunakaran, who was promoted to the main draw after Lee Zii Jia’s withdrawal, lost to Chinese Taipei's Su Li Yang after a close fight.
