BWF French Open: Indian results at the end of day one

India won two of its three matches on day one of the BWF French Open

After an intense week of action in Denmark, Indian shuttlers have now shifted their focus to the French Open in Rennes. This Super 750 tournament had three Indian matches today, and gave fans plenty to cheer about.

First in action were the current world number one duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The pair battled French players Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar on the second court at the Glaz Arena.

Displaying their trademark smashes and speed, Rankireddy and Shetty absolutely dominated the court at the French Open to take their 21-13, 21-13 victory in a quick 35 minutes.

Next up was the women's doubles duo of the Panda sisters. Rutuparna and Swetaparna (who were promoted from qualifying) faced China's Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min.

The Indian pair struggled significantly in their first game, conceding the set 21-6. While the sisters put up a stronger show in the second half of the match, it just wasn't enough. The Chinese eventually walked away with the win 21-16.

The last Indian on the court at Rennes was PV Sindhu. Sindhu, who recently re-entered the world's top 10, was battling Indonesian seventh seed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

The game got off to a slow start for Indian fans, with Tunjung racing away to a 21-12 win. However, displaying her newfound resolution, Sindhu clawed her way back into the game. After a hard-fought match, the Indian booked herself a pre-quarterfinal berth at the French Open with a 12-21, 21-18, 21-15 victory.
