BWF US Open Day 2 Results: Priyanshu Rajawat, Malvika Bansod claim first-round victories in Texas

The second day of action at the US Open saw a busy day for Indian shuttlers. While Priyanshu Rajawat and Malvika Bansod were able to notch victories in their opening rounds, Ayush Shetty and the mixed doubles duo of Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gadde failed to close in on their opponents despite long fights.

Getting things going at the Fort Worth Convention Centre was Ayush Shetty, as he battled Singapore’s Jason Teh. Shetty started out looking strong, pushing his opponent to every corner of the court to take the win 21-18. However, Teh soon made a roaring comeback, shutting down any advances the Indian to win the next two games 21-12, 21-12.

Up next at the US Open was Priyanshu Rajawat, one of India's brightest hopes for a medal finish in the event. Taking on Czechia’s Jan Louda, the youngster had a strong start to his day, taking a 5-1 lead at the beginning of the first game. While Louda eventually closed the gap, it was still Rajawat who took the win 21-16.

The second game saw badminton enthusiasts treated to a more scintillating encounter. The two shuttlers traded blows back and forth to keep the scoreline relatively even, with Rajawat trailing by a single point at the mid-game interval. The Indian got back on track soon enough, jumping ahead in the last leg of the game to win 21-18.

In action on the second session of the day at the US Open was Malvika Bansod and the mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde. Bansod, the eighth seed of the seventh seed at the tournament, had an easy opponent in Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba, winning her match 21-14, 21-15.

On the other hand, Kapoor and Gadde were unable to get past their foes with such ease. Playing Scotts Alexander Dunn and Julie McPhearson, the Indians were able to push the match to the full distance only to fall short 15-21, 21-18, 13-21.
