Finals day at the Syed Modi International brought some unforgettable action for Indian badminton enthusiasts. The nation's shuttlers were on court for all five matches, with Treesa Jolly/Gayathri Gopichand, PV Sindhu, and Lakshya Sen walking away with title finishes.
The first match in Lucknow today (December 1) was the mixed doubles final, where fifth seeds Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto took on Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran. While the Indians got off to a great start and won the first game, their opponents recovered well to force a decider before walking away with the win in the final game.
Up next was the men's doubles duo of Pruthvi Roy and Sai Pratheek as they battled Huang Di and Liu Yang. Fans were once again treated to a marathon match, but India missed out on the top step of the podium as Di and Yang claimed a 21-14, 19-21, 21-17.
India's first title finish at the Syed Modi International came through the women's doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand. The youngsters were absolutely on fire today, shutting down their Chinese opponents Bao Li Jing and Li Qian 21-18, 21-11 in just 41 minutes. This marks the pair’s first title finish since the 2022 Odisha Open Super 100 event.
Keeping this momentum going, PV Sindhu was next in line in Lucknow. The two-time Olympic medalist simply outclassed her Chinese opponent Wu Luo Yo, winning the match 21-14, 21-16 to put an end to her two-year-long title drought. The last time Sindhu stood on top of the podium was at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Rounding out the day with a win for India at the Syed Modi International was Lakshya Sen. The Paris Olympics semi-finalist has been in great form all week, and was an utterly dominant force on court today, downing Singapore's Jason Teh 21-6, 21-7 in just 31 minutes.
