Parupalli Kashyap has pulled out of the Japan Open, which began today, with an ankle injury.
Kashyap was supposed to lead the Indian challenge at the tournament, which also sees participation of Ajay Jayaram, K Srikanth, Sai Praneeth among others.
PV Sindhu and Tanvi Lad are the only two women shuttlers at the event. Saina Nehwal has also pulled out of the event to take more rest.
“I’m not playing the Japan Open as I could not recover from the ankle injury I had suffered during the IBL,” Kashyap said, according to the Hindu.
PV Sindhu will lead the Indian charge in Kashyap and Sindhu’s absence. Ranked No.10, Sindhu’s the highest ranked Indian player in the tournament.
She will face two qualifiers in the first two rounds and is likely to face Chinese World No.1 Li Xuerui in the quarter-finals.
