What's the story?
As he stated in the past as well, World No.1 Victor Axelsen is certainly not a fan of the new service rule to fix the height of the shuttle and has criticized it by calling it ridiculous on Wednesday.
In case you didn't know...
The Badminton World Federation is set to put into practice a new law stating that 'the shuttle should be below 1.15 metres from the surface of the court at the instant of being hit by the server's racket'.
This rule will come into play from March 1 in the All England Open Championships this year on an experimental basis.
The heart of the matter
Speaking talking to Sportskeeda prior to his side's PBL 3 opener, the Dane criticised the new rule by saying, "It is a ridiculous rule. It is like to lower the basket in basketball just because taller players have an easier time in dunking. I think it is really a bad rule."
The reigning world champion further said, "It is strange to start it at the All England, which is the most prestigious and traditional tournament. So, I don't like it."
The Danish star further criticized the BWF for having a lot of tournaments in a single year sighting the lack of time for practice for the bigger tournaments. In the past, star Indian shuttlers like Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap have criticized the BWF's tight scheduling of tournaments.
What' next?
Victor Axelsen will play his first match in the Premier Badminton League Season 3 for the Bengaluru Blasters against the Delhi Dashers on Thursday.
Sportskeeda's take
The All England Open is the most prestigious tournament of the year and it's a bit surprising that BWF has decided to test this experimental law in this tournament and not at a lower level one.
