On Saturday evening, it was the second semi-final clash of the women’s singles category of the Kumpoo Macau Open 2013 between the Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Qin Jinjing from the host nation.
In the first game, Jinjing tried gave a tough fight to Sindhu and levelled the score 9-9 at one stage. After this score, Sindhu raced to complete her 21 points and bagged the first game in her name by 21-13. Sindhu looked determined in this game and her agile smashes proved tedious for the opponent.
The second game of the match was full of ups and downs. After a 5-5 score in the beginning, Sindhu was progressing well with a reasonable lead. She was ahead in the game by a score of 16-14. But at the end, Jinjing changed the scenario completely and defeated Sindhu by 21-18 after scoring consecutive points.
In the third and decisive game, Jinjing continued her dominance over the Indian and scored four consecutive points in the beginning. Sindhu tried her level best to stay in the battle and succeeded in the crucial last minutes by registering a much needed victory for India. The final score of the match was 21-13, 18-21 and 21-19 in Sindhu’s favour.
Sindhu has had a brilliant run in the tournament so far. In her first round encounter, Sindhu displayed both patience and aggression to pummel her Korean opponent Soo Jin Kim. Despite losing the first game by 15-21, Sindhu displayed excellent skills to overshadow her opponent by clinching the next two games comfortably by 21-12 and 21-9.
Even in her second round match, Sindhu started with a losing score 18-21 in the first game. But she didn’t allow the pressure to overcome her confidence and came back strongly to bag the remaining games by 21-8 and 21-14 and send her Thai opponent Salakjit Ponsana packing.
The top-seeded Indian shuttler gained momentum after registering two wins in the tournament. She cleared her third round hurdle in no time by defeating the Hong Kong smasher Tsz Ka Chan 21-17, 21-12.
Earlier, in the first semi-final battle, seventh-seeded Li Michelle from Canada defeated the Hong Kong player Pui Yin Yip by 21-15 and 21-16 to book her spot in the finals.
On Sunday, 1st December 2013, PV Sindhu will lock horns with the Canadian player Li Michelle in the final for the women’s singles title.
