The badminton events for the Rio Olympics 2016 have been announced and if you are an Indian supporter, you would be happy to know that you might not have stay awake the whole night, at least in the early stages of the competition, to catch your favourite stars in action.
The Indian shuttlers will begin their campaign on the 11th of August with Saina Nehwal kicking things off in Group G against Lohanny Vicente of Brazil. On the same day, P V Sindhu will play her 1st match as well against Laura Sarosi.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will also play their first match on the 11th, against the top seeds Ayaka Takahashi and Mitasu Matsutomo of Japan. The Men’s Doubles pairing of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy will play their opening match of the group against Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan on the same day.
The 12th of August will see Kidambi Srikanth start his campaign as he takes on Lino Munoz in his 1st match. Attri and Reddy will also play their 2nd match on the 12th of August, taking on the Chinese pair of Chai Biao and Hong Wei.
On the same day, Gutta and Ponnappa will play their second Group game, this time against the Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek.
The following day, Gutta and Ponnappa are up against the Thailand pairing of Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanchai. On the 14th of August, Saina will be back in action in her second group game against Marija Ulitina of Ukraine and so will Sindhu, who will be up against Michelle Li of Canada. Srikanth will also play in his second Group match this time against Henri Hurskainen on the same day.
Attri and Reddy will play their final group game that day against the pairing of Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa on the same day.
The Men’s Singles Round of 16 matches will commence from the 15th of August, the Women’s Singles matches will start from the 17th of August, Both the Men’s as well as the Women’s Doubles quarterfinals will start from the 15th of August.
