Defending champion Saina Nehwal made a superb comeback to beat World champion Carolina Marin 19-21, 25-23, 21-16 in the $120,000 Syed Modi International Badminton Championships today. The Indian ace led 16-12 in the first game before allowing the Spaniard to take control. Saina led 10-6 in the second game as well, but Marin hit some brilliant winners to go 15-12 up. Saina saved couple of match points to force a decider.
It took the Hyderabadi three game points to even scores in the match. Saina learnt from her mistakes in the opening two games and did not allow the Spaniard to get back into the match after she led 9-4 in the final game. Saina won the championship off her third match point.
With this win, Saina has won all her three matches against the World champion.
