India’s numero uno shuttler, Saina Nehwal, who has been struggling with a feet injury since her last appearance at the China Super Series Premier, has less expectations from the BWF Super Series Finals set to commence in Dubai from December 9.
She is, however, resolute in giving her opponents in Pool A, a tough challenge. The World No. 2 had to skip the Hong Kong Open last month to nurse her Achilles injury.
“I’ve been undergoing physiotherapy for the last three weeks and I feel I’m in good shape, but you never know. I’m not expecting big results because of the injury which I had in China. I just want to give my best,” Saina said.
She would be facing Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in her opening clash of the tournament, followed by the World No.1 and the incumbent World Champion Carolina Marin of Spain. Also, in her pool is the defending champion Tzu-Ying Tai.
Although Saina has a 3-2 advantage over the reigning world champion as far as their head to head record goes, the London Olympics bronze medalist had lost to Marin at the All England Championship finals as well as at the World Championship finals this season.
Saina had words of accolade for Marin. She said, “I think she had a great year, she’s been playing really well. She’s a tough competitor for everyone. She’s in good shape right now and I’m struggling with the injury so you never know.”
On her other opponents, she said that both Tzu-Ying Tai and Okuhara had defeated her this year, so it is going to be a tough challenge. She, as of now, just hopes to give them a good fight.
The Indian had reached the finals of this prestigious tournament in 2011 and has finished at the semi-final stage on three occasions.
