Saina Nehwal Fails to Completes Hat-trick of Indonesia Open

Mission Indonesia Failed

India’s Saina Nehwal fail to defend her Indonesia Open Super Series suffering a defeat against Wang Yihan of China 12-21 23-21 21-14. With this loose, Saina also failed to complete a hat-trick in the Indonesia Open Super Series. She has been winning the title since 2009.

Winning the first game, Saina very much looked to wrapped up the match in second game before the World No. 3 Chinese came back strongly and level the match. In the decider, Saina was forced on the back foot and never looked comfortable. The Chinese dominated the proceedings and went on to win the tile.

In control of the match from the first game, the 21 year old Indian never let loose and made the Chinese work hard for each point. Stepping up her tempo at 9-9, Saina cut loose and went on to win four consecutive points. Establishing a lead, the Indian played some terrific shots and left behind her Chinese counterpart at 12 points by the time she won the first game.

In the second game, Wang putting all her experience into the game came back strong and took control. She never allowed Saina to dominate her and forced her on the back foot by taking lead. At one stage, Wang was leading 17-12 when Saina fought hard to catch her up. Saina was on game point when Wang was on 19 but the Chinese hold her nerves and ultimately won the game 23-21.

The decider was also a hard fought game with Saina bringing all her assets into play to defend her title successfully. Wang was not to give up either. Both shared points more or less equally though Saina took the lead at 7-4. But the Chinese came back strong to level her at 9-9 and went on to take the lead by 3 points. There after she never allowed the Indian to come back and wrapped up the match with score of 21-4 in 1 hour 5Mins.

Saina would be very disappointed on losing the match as a win here would have bagged her hat-trick in her favorite venue. Indonesia holds a special place in Saina’s heart as she curved a niche for herself in the World Badminton circuit from here. She infact owes her success to Indonesia and expressed her love for the country when she said that she is better known in Indonesia then in India few years back.
