The expectations are big and expectedly so. As Saina Nehwal enters into her third Olympics in Rio De Janerio, she knows fully that a country hopes for nothing less than a medal from her.
The 26-year-old will be playing her 1st match since June 12th 2016, when she won the Australian Open, on Thursday against local favourite Lohaynny Vicente at the Riocentro Pavillion.
There’s no doubt that Saina ould have been aware of what is going on in among the Indian contingent. The opening three days of Rio 2016 saw Indian athletes come close but unable to deliver a medal and so she will know that there will be added pressure when she takes to the court.
However, if there is one shuttler in this country, who is used to such high expectationsns, it is her. Although injuries have hampered her progress in the last one year, she has looked a better player at every passing event since her return at the All England Championships in March and will look to get her campaign off to a winning start.
Saina’s opponent Lohaynny Vicente will certainly have a task on hand as she faces up to the former World No.1 and will need to be on top of her game to pose any threat to the Indian.
