The evening session of semifinals of the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2013 started from 6.30 pm local time.
In the second semifinal of the Women’s Doubles category, the fifth seeded pair of Yixin Bao and Jinhua Tang of China defeated the Japanese duo of Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi by 21-17 and 21-12. During the first game, the score was leveled thrice and ultimately the Chinese got hold of it by scoring crucial points at the end. In the second game after a score of 5-5, the Chinese started dominating and won the match by a handsome margin.
After the first match of Men’s Singles category, it was Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Tommy Sugiarto on court to fight for the victory. Tommy Sugiarto left the game in between and retired of injury when the score was 21-14 and 8-3 on the boards.
In the second semifinal of Women’s Singles, Shixian Wang- the fourth seeded Chinese shuttler registered a win over her Japanese opponent Minatsu Mitani by 21-13 and 21-17. The match lasted 46 minutes.
In the second last match of the day, the pair of Mohammad Ahsan- Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia lost to Yong Dae Lee and Yeon Seong Yoo of Korea in one of the most exciting clashes of the tournament. It was a very close encounter and score equalized at almost every second point of the match. The Korean duo won the thriller by 22-20 and 22-20 in a 45 minute fight.
Chun Hei Lee and Hoi Wah Chau of Hong Kong failed to prevent the Chinese opposition of Cheng Liu and Yixin Bao to enter the finals. They maintained a marginal lead thorough out the first game and won it by 21-17. In the second game, the Chinese made a comeback and leveled the match by scoring 21-10 in their favour. The final and the decisive game looked balanced in the beginning. After the score of 4-4, Cheng and Yixin sprinted towards the winning point and managed to enter the finals by a recovery win with score 23-21.
