Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany), Feb 27 (IANS): Former Indian national champion Arvind Bhat continued his good form by progressing to the men’s singles quarter-finals of the $120,000 German Open Grand Prix Gold here Thursday.
Bhat beat Malaysian World No. 40 Daren Liew 21-14, 21-12 in a Round 3 match which lasted 39 minutes at the RWE-Sporthalle, to take a 2-0 lead in career meetings.
However, Chinese Taipei’s 15th seed Tien Chen Chou got rid of Mumbai’s Anand Pawar 21-14, 21-11 in half an hour.
In women’s singles, Japanese seventh seed Eriko Hirose beat Arundhati Pantawane 21-18, 21-16 in 42 minutes.
H.S. Prannoy and P.C. Thulasi will play their respective matches later in the day.
