Kozhikode – Kerala shuttler Valiyaveetil Diju tied the knot here in the coastal municipality of Vatakara on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Olympian got married to a doctor named Soumya, who also hails from the same state.
The couple got mbadmiarried in a traditional Malayali wedding and photographs were put up on Diju’s Facebook account.
Diju, who partnered Jwala Gutta in mixed doubles tournament at the Summer Olympics, is taking time out from the international badminton circuit due to his marriage.
Diju, who plays for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the national circuit, is ranked 12th in the Badminton World Federation rankings with partner Gutta.
The duo were the first Indian pair to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championship in 2009 in Hyderabad.
