Sub-junior Badminton Championship at a glance

In the ongoing Sunila Barve Memorial Maharashtra State Sub-Junior Badminton tournament, the star smasher from Nagpur – Ritika Thaker emerged as the brilliant performer for Nagpur as she stormed into the quarterfinals of all the four events she is participating – U-13 Girls Singles, U-13 Girls Doubles, U-15 Girls Singles and U-15 Girls Doubles category on Wednesday 9 October, 2013. This Sub-Junior Badminton tournament is being organized at the Poona District & Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA) Hall in Pune, Maharashtra.

Ritika Thaker is a student of the Centre Point School (Katol Road) and she was successful in booking her spot in the last-8 of the U-13 as well as U-15 Girls Singles and Doubles category. Malvika Bansod was the other Nagpur girl to make her way into the quarterfinals of U-13 Girls Singles category.

Nikhil Wadekar of Kohlapur faced defeat against Sourabh Kerhalkar in the pre-quarterfinals. The 14-year old boy Sourabh registered an easy victory to seal his quarterfinal spot by defeating Nikhil 15-8 and 15-11. Sourabh – a student of Somalwar Nikalas, will now face Sai Dinesh Reddy from Mumbai for booking the semi-final berth on Thursday. In the U-13 Boys Singles category, second seeded Rohan Gurbani and Sudhanshu Bhure entered the quarterfinals of this category.Here are the results of all the pre-quarterfinal matches –

Malvika Bansod (Nagpur) defeated Shambhavi Mhetre by 15-4 and 15-8.

Sanashree Dhamdhere defeated Arya Anchalwar by 15-6 and 15-6.

Ritika Thaker (Nagpur) defeated Aashu Khatale by 15-11 and 15-6.

U-13 Girls Doubles Category:

Ritika Thaker-Simran Singhi defeated Puja Deshpande-Revati Shrikhande by 15-2 and 15-9.

Anhana Thosar-Sara Joshi lost to Arya Anchalwar-Gargi Joshi by 5-15 and 1-15.

U-15 Girls Singles Category:

Purva Barve defeated Gargi Joshi by 15-10 and 15-14.

Simran Singhi defeated Malvika Bansod (Nagpur) by 15-12 and 15-13.

Ritika Thaker (Nagpur) defeated Rucha Kulkarni by 15-12 and 15-10.

U-15 Girls Doubles Category:

Deeksha Hardasani-Meinha Khanna lost to Rasha Mundle-Shriya Bhagwat by 4-15 and 8-15.

Gauri Kulkarni-Vrushi Furia defeated Malvika Bansod-Rashi Lambe by 12-15, 15-6 and 15-13.

Aditi Mahajan-Sugandha Navlekar lost to Mughda Agrey-Pallavi Pitale by 8-15 and 2-15.

Ritika Thaker-Simran Singhi defeated Chaitra Shetty-Saakshi Shetty by 15-12 and 15-4.

U-13 Boys Singles Category:

Prathamesh Halankar lost to Sudhanshu Bhure by 11-15 and 12-15.

Rohit Gurbani defeated Aniket Darp by 15-8 and 15-10.

U-13 Boys Doubles Category:

Rohan Thool-Suyog Lokhande defeated Rohan Gurbani-Sudhanshu Bhure by 15-10 and 15-11.

Prathamesh Halankar-Shardul Phadke lost to Abhiram Sahasrabhojanee-Jaskaran Suri by 12-15, 15-11 and 11-15.

U-15 Boys Singles Category:

Nikhil Wadekar lost to Sourabh Kerhalkar by 8-15 and 11-15.
