The Swiss International Badminton Tournament is taking place in the City of Yverdon-Les-Bains, Switzerland. The tournament stakes a sum of USD $15,000 as prize money. The tournament started on Thursday, 17th October, 2013.
In the Swiss International Badminton Tournament 2013, Indian players booked their spot in the semifinals on the third day. All the players contesting for their place in semis successfully defeated their opponents in the respective categories.
Pranaav Jerry Chopra, Akshay Dewalkar, Maneesha K. and Tanvi Lad are representing India in three categories of the game including Mixed Doubles, Men’s Doubles and Women’s Singles.
In the first match played on 19th October, 2013, pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Maneesha K. defeated Laurent Constantin and Laura Choinet by 21-13 and 21-17.
Following this victory, Tanvi Lad in her match of Women’s Singles category, defeated Nanna Vainio of Finland in a tough encounter by 22-20 and 21-15. The Finland opposition presented a good competition.
Pranaav Jerry Chopra now paired with Akshay Dewalkar to play in the Mixed Doubles category. They defeated Swiss pair of Marco Fux and Yoann Freysinger by 21-14 and 21-14. It was an easy match and finished in only 19 minutes.
After this Tanvi Lad crushed her opponent Lianne Tan of Belgium by 21-14 and 21-18 to finalize her place in Semi finals. In the very next match Pranaav and Maneesha defeated Baptiste Careme and Anne Tran of France to accompany Tanvi in the next round hunt.
Pranaav and Akshay fought hard in their match against Indonesian players Saputra Albert and Siswanto to reach semi-finals. They defeated the Indonesian pair by 20-22, 21-15 and 21-10. Even after losing the first game, they kept their cool and managed to emerge as winners in the successive games by fairly good margins. This victory confirmed three Indian contests in semifinals to be held on the final day i.e. Sunday 20th October, 2013.
The finals will be held after the decisive semi-final round on Sunday, 20th October, 2013 at Centre Sportif.
