After the disappointing start in the Mixed Doubles category for India, where the duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Maneesha K. lost against their opponents, Tanvi Lad brought a cherishing moment for the badminton fans.
The sixth-seeded Indian smasher Tanvi Lad defeated Yuka Kusunose from Japan in the first semi-final match of the Women’s Singles category. It was an interesting encounter between the two and the match lasted for 62 minutes and went for three-games.
In the first game of the match, Tanvi began her campaign convincingly and the score was levelled with 8-8. But after this, Tanvi lost her momentum and the Japanese smasher Kusunose took away the game comfortably by 21-16.
Tanvi Lad came back with a spirited performance in the second game of the match. At one stage, the score was levelled with 11-11. But Tanvi responded back strongly and snatched the second game by 21-14 to take the match to the final game.
The final and decisive game of the match was full of ups and downs. Yuka Kusunose was leading by 8-6 at one phase of the game and the score was equalised for 6 times after that. At the end, it was 18-18 on the board but Tanvi Lad held her nerves in the final moments of the game and bagged the game by 21-19. With her comprehensive win over Kusunose, Tanvi has registered her spot in the Finals of the Women’s Singles category.
On the other hand, in the second semi-final clash of the category, USA registered victory over the hosts Switzerland. USA smasher Beiwan Zhang defeated Sabrina Jaquet comfortably by 21-19 and 21-11.
Swiss shuttler Sabrina Jaquet presented a tough fight to the opponent in the first game of the match. The score was levelled for 9 times and was 17-17 at one stage. But at the end, it was Beiwan Zhang who managed to steal the game by 21-19.
The second game proved to be a one-sided clash between the two. Zhang found no difficulty in clinching the game by 21-11 to win the match and booking her slot in the Finals against the Indian opponent Tanvi Lad.
