Amidst the disappointing news from the All England Championships this week, Tarun Kona and Alwin Francis have brought a smile to Indian badminton fans. The men’s doubles pair reached the final of the 31st Brazil International Badminton Cup 2016 held at Sao Paulo on Saturday. The Indian duo, who is unseeded in this tournament, caused a big upset by toppling the second seeds Phillip Chew and Sattawat Pongnairat, 21-16, 21-9 in their semi-final match.

They will meet the top-seeded Polish pair of Adam Cwalina and Przemyslaw Wacha in the summit clash on Sunday.
Kona and Francis have been in impeccable form of late and have won titles at the Peru International and the Guatemala International. The two title wins have shot them up 39 places to their current ranking of 93rd.
