Top seeded player, R M V Gurusaidutt entered into the semi-finals in the men’s singles of the Tata Open India International Challenge Badminton which is being held at Mumbai.
Gurusaidutt is also the defending champion. Women’s singles defending champion P C Thulasi and reigning national champion Sayali Gokhale were knocked out of the tournament.
Gurusaidutt will meet Saurabh Varma who beat junior national champion Aditya Joshi 21-8,21-9 in the quarter finals.The match between the Indian duo is scheduled for Saturday.
Last year’s losing finalist and tournament top seed Febby Angguni of Indonesia reached the semi-finals following victory over fifth seed Saili Rane in straight sets of 21-8, 21-13.
Thulasi, seeded fourth went down in straight sets to Chinese Taipei rival Chia Tsin Lee who was seeded sixth.
Thulasi made a strong recovery from 0-13 in the second game before losing the quarterfinal tie 14-21 18-21 at the Cricket Club of India.
Meanwhile,Eighth seeded Sayali, who won the national crown last year at Srinagar, gave a good fight to Chinese Taipei’s Yu Chieh Cheng before losing 10-21 25-23 21-19 in the pre-quarterfinals.
