Saina Nehwal reaching the finals of BWF world Superseries last year, and the dream run of P.V. Sindhu in the Dutch Masters is all a thing of the past now. All the eyes will be on Victor Korea Open, the first Superseries event of the year starting from 3rd of January. The event will be featuring all the top badminton players of the world including our very own Saina Nehwal.
In the first round Saina Nehwal (world No. 4) will be up against the world No. 33 Scottish player Susan Eglestaff. If Saina wins her first two matches then in the quarterfinals she can be up against the world No. 6 Chinese player Yanjiao Jian. Last year Saina Nehwal was unable to break the quarterfinals jinx a number of times, but if she want to be on top of her game then she needs to cross this hurdle.
In men’s singles category Indian No. 1 Parupalli Kashyap have to go through a tough match, as he will be up against the world no 1. Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia. Another Indian player, Ajay Jayaram, will face local boy & world No. 20 Shon Wan Ho.
In women’s doubles the Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa will have to battle out with the American pair of Irish wang and Rena wang. With V.Diju and Jwala Gutta in mixed doubles, the Indian pair will be up against the Korean pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hye Wom. In men’s doubles category the Indian duo of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas will have to give their best against the world no 2 Korean pair of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Da.
Also in the qualification rounds a number of Indians will try their luck, starting from the women’s single, 16 year old young badminton sensation and the player who can surprise anyone with her game – P.V. Sindhu – will be up against the Indonesian player Maria Febe. In men’s singles category, 3 Indians will try to make it to the main draw. 20 year old R.M.V Gurusaidutt will be in a match against the 2nd seed Hsu Jen Hao, Anand Pawar will face Singapore player Zi Liang, and the player who stunned everyone with his performance in last month’s Syed Modi Indian Open, Saurabh verma, will be up against the Malaysian player Daren liew.
Apart from the Indian contingent top Chinese players will be giving their best to clinch the first Superseries Premier event of this year.World No. 2 in men’s single’s category Lin Dan will be up against a much lower ranked spanish player Pablo Abian. In women’s single’s category Wang Yihan will play against the Dutch player Jie Yao.
