During the recently-concluded French Open Super Series, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy faced off in an all-Indian semifinal last weekend. Srikanth won the match in the end with a score of 14-21, 21-19, 21-18. The battle was fierce between the two competitors and long rallies dominated the play. One particular rally that stood out was during the second game of the match.
Prannoy was serving at the time and the back-and-forth play between them was nothing short of legendary. With the two players locked at 14-14 in the second set, the rally for lasted 34 shots and ended when Srikanth put the shuttlecock wide to his opponent's left. Prannoy posted the video on his official Facebook page as the match was not broadcast on the TV court.
As one can see, Srikanth forced his compatriot into tight spots on several occasions. And as mentioned in the Facebook post, Prannoy had to pull off three dives to return the shuttlecock. Both players are incredible players in their own right but there could only be one winner.
That winner was Kidambi Srikanth, who battled past his fellow countryman. But the Hyderabad player did not have it easy as Prannoy kept him honest during the entire match.
In the end, Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the final to meet Kenta Nishimoto where he clinched a resounding win, which propelled him to the World number 2 spot. On the other hand, Prannoy will be eyeing the Top 10 and is currently ranked 11th in the world.
