India’s Saina Nehwal continues to hold the number three ranking in the latest World Badminton Federation (WBF) rankings. Another Indian, PV Sindhu jumped one spot to 24th.
The Indian badminton icon would be looking to snap at the heels of Chinese powerhouses – Wang Yihan (world number 1) and Li Xuerui (world number 2) – when she competes in the prestigious World Super Series Finals in China starting later this month.
In the men’s singles, India’s top ranked singles player Parupalli Kashyap fell two spots to be placed 21st. Kashyap had retired hurt at both the recent Hong Kong Open and Macau Open tournaments.
The country’s second highest singles ranked player, Ajay Jayaram continued to cling on to his 32nd spot, while Sourabh Varma moved up one place to 34th.
Another Indian RMV Gurusaidutt advanced nine spots to be placed 42nd, following an impressive run at the Macau Open, where he reached the men’s singles semifinals.
K Srikanth, who also made it to the semifinals of the Macau Open, surged 28 places to be ranked 81st – the highest climb by an Indian shuttler for the week.
Arvind Sridhar also moved up three spots to be placed 106.
Among other Indians who dropped in rankings, Anand Pawar fell two spots to be placed 49th. B Sai Praneeth dropped two spots to 66th, while Arvind Bhat slipped four places to 89th.
HS Pranoy also fell four places to 93rd, while the experienced Chetan Anand also slipped one place to 130th.
