3 early season trades Rangers could make to defend World Series title in 2024

The Texas Rangers are coming off their first World Series victory last season. It took the club 52 years to do so, but better late than never, right? Now, they are looking to defend their title.

They came into the season with some depth issues, especially with starting pitchers. They are still waiting on Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom to make their 2024 season debuts.

Pitching could be an area the team looks to upgrade over the next two months, with the trade deadline on July 30. So, today, we look at some players the team may target to help defend their World Series title victory.

Three possible trade targets for the Texas Rangers

#3 Jose Urquidy

There's no denying the Houston Astros have not gotten off to the start they would like to. They come into Saturday with a 20-25 record, putting them third in the American League West.

For the Rangers, they could use another starting pitcher to help with their depth issues. Urquidy only has one year of club control remaining after the 2024 season, making him a possible target.

#2 Tanner Scott

Tanner Scott would not be a trade that would turn a lot of heads. However, he's a solid reliever who could help strengthen the team's bullpen.

Scott plays for the Miami Marlins, and like the Astros, they have not gotten off to a great start. They are one of the worst teams in MLB right now and could be complete sellers at the deadline.

#1 Jesus Luzardo

Jesus Luzardo was a player the Marlins were trying to trade when they made a deal to send Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres, but the Padres passed on the offer.

Luzardo is coming off an excellent start on Friday, where he shutout the New York Mets. The lefty went six innings, striking out seven batters to help his club secure the victory.

Luzardo would be a great addition to the rotation. He's still young, would not cost as much as other top pitchers and still has room for improvement.

For the Rangers, it would make sense that they would target arms at the trade deadline this season. While they have Scherzer and deGrom rehabbing to return, they cannot count on those two to stay healthy all season. The duo has made too many IL trips in recent years.
