There are many MLB players who are dating or are married to other athletes. These athletes excel in their respective sports and have carved out a successful career.
Let's take a look at four of them:
4 MLB stars whose partners are popular athletes
#1: Paul Skenes
Paul Skenes and Olivia Dunne know each other from their Baton Rouge days, where both enrolled with LSU. Skenes won the College World Series and was subsequently picked first overall in the 2023 MLB draft. Dunne won the 2023-24 NCAA gymnastics title.
Dunne is the benchmark for all female college athletes when it comes to NIL. She boasts $3.9 million in NIL deals (per On3) and only trails Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders in On3's NIL 100, which ranks college athletes by NIL earnings.
#2: Dansby Swanson
Chicago Cubs shortstop Swanson has been married to Mallory Pugh since 2022. While Swanson is a two-time All-Star and a World Series champion, Pugh plays for the United States women's national soccer team (USWNT) and the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).
Pugh entered the 2016 Olympic Games as the youngest player in the team and, at 18 years old, became the youngest American ever to score a goal in the Olympics.
#3: Julio Rodriguez
Another soccer player in a relationship with an MLB star is Canada's Jordyn Huitema. She is dating Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez. The Mariner made his debut in 2022, winning the AL Rookie of the Year and earning his first All-Star selection. He followed it up with another All-Star selection year.
Huitema is a forward for the Canada women's team and Seattle Reign of the NWSL. The 23-year-old has been part of the women's soccer world since she was 15, and she became the third-youngest player to represent Canada’s senior team at 16.
She won the Golden Boot in the qualifying tournament of the Tokyo Olympics.
#4: Shohei Ohtani
The Dodgers' $700 million star made headlines when he announced his marriage during the offseason. He did not reveal who his wife was until he was spotted going to Seoul with Mamiko Tanaka.
Tanaka is a former Japanese professional basketball player who played four seasons for the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women's Japan Basketball League. She represented Japan in many international youth tournaments, including the 2011 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship, the 2012 FIBA Under-17 World Championship and the 2014 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship.
