The New York Yankees have had a stellar 2024 season. They finished with a 94-68 record, securing the AL East division title and clinched the ALDS, beating the Kansas City Royals.
The Bronx Bombers also won the ALCS, capturing their first AL pennant since 2009. They advanced to the World Series, where they lost 4-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With the offseason underway, the Yankees are focused on bolstering their roster in pursuit of another World Series title. They lost star outfielder Juan Soto to free agency, with Soto signing with the New York Mets.
However, the Yankees made a notable move on Tuesday by adding versatile player Cody Bellinger. This move is especially significant, given his family connection to the team, as his father, Clay Bellinger, also played for the Yankees.
The Bellingers are now a part of a select group, becoming the fourth father-son duo in Yankees history. Here’s a look at all the father-son duos the Yankees have had:
Four father-son duos in New York Yankees history
#1 Cody and Clay Bellinger
Cody Bellinger made his way to the New York Yankees through a trade with the Chicago Cubs, bringing along $5 million in cash considerations in exchange for pitcher Cody Poteet.
His father, Clay Bellinger, spent three seasons with the Yankees, from 1999 to 2001. During his time with the team, Clay became a two-time World Series champion.
#2 Yogi and Dale Berra
New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra was with the team from 1946 to 1963 and won 10 World Series championships. The Hall of Famer had a decorated career, with 18 All-Star selections, 13 World Series championships and three AL MVP awards.
Although Yogi had a long tenure with the team, his son Dale Berra had a brief stint with the Yankees, from 1985 to 1986.
#3 Mark Leiter and Mark Leiter Jr.
Mark Leiter played as a relief pitcher for the Yankees in 1990. Meanwhile, his son, Mark Leiter Jr., joined them earlier this year, in July in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.
#4 Ron and Ike Davis
Ron Davis was a prominent relief pitcher who spent 11 years in Major League Baseball, including with the Yankees from 1978 to 1981. His son, Ike Davis, also played for the Yankees during the 2016 season, which was his final year in the majors.
