The Mets' 2022 season was a successful one. New York notched up 101 wins in the regular season and was billed as one of the World Series favorites. But the team couldn't clinch the NL East, thanks to the Braves' better head-to-head record, who also finished on 101-61.
Moreover, the Mets were upset in the Wild Card Series by the San Diego Padres. During the season trade window, they made four changes at the deadline to strengthen the roster. However, two years later, all four were free agents and out of contract with MLB teams.
#1, Daniel Vogebach
Daniel Vogelbach had a short stint with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024 before they released him. He was batting at .181, with just one home run in the season. Vogelbach was primarily the Mets' DH in 2022 after being traded on the deadline day in exchange for then-rookie reliever Colin Holderman.
Daniel had batted at .255 from 55 games for the team, hitting 25 RBIs, including six home runs. He was non-tendered by the team after a disappointing 2023 season before signing the contract with the Blue Jays.
#2, Darin Ruf
Darin Ruf was exchanged with the San Francisco Giants for J.D. Davis. The Mets expected to add a right-handed power hitter to their lineup, but that didn't happen. Ruf was batting at .152 with just six RBIs in 28 games in 2022 before being traded back to the Giants.
However, his second stint with the Giants was also cut short. He was traded to the Brewers before becoming a free agent at the end of last season.
#3, Tyler Naquin
Tyler Naquin was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds. He featured in only 49 games, batting at .203 with four home runs and 13 RBIs. After the Mets didn't extend his contract, Naquin signed a minor league deal with the Brewers. He was later traded to the Chicago White Sox, who eventually released him.
#4, Mychal Givens
Mychal Givens is the only pitcher on this list who was brought in from the Chicago Cubs. He pitched 20.2 games in relief in 19 games and struggled to a 4.79 ERA. He had a similar form in 2023 with the Baltimore Orioles. He opted out of a minor league deal he had signed with the Miami Marlins this season.
