The hot stove is officially red-hot, but the San Diego Padres have been cold. They haven't done much, while the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets, two teams who went further in the playoffs last year, have made blockbuster moves already. Here are some moves the Padres need to consider to keep up.

5 moves the Padres should make this offseason

#5. Sign Kenley Jansen

Teams can never have enough high-leverage relievers. Kenley Jansen is coming off a solid season with the Boston Red Sox, but he won't cost much or demand a long-term contract. He's the perfect player to bring in this year to bolster the bullpen and give the Padres a strong pitching staff capable of contending with the dominant offenses in the NL.

#4. Sign Gleyber Torres

Gleyber Torres is the top second baseman on the market, but he won't be that expensive. He's still young enough to fit with the Padres' timeline. He also fills a need. With Ha-Seong Kim gone, the Padres have three infield spots solidified.

Jake Cronenworth can virtually play all of them, but they can move him to first and put Xander Bogaerts back to shortstop. Torres could slide in at second and provide them a quality bat in the order.

#3. Trade Luis Arraez

The Padres did well after acquiring Luis Arraez early last season, but they should trade him away. He's one of the more expensive players on the roster and will soon be a free agent. To restock the farm system and cut payroll down (potentially to spend it later on extensions for players like Michael King or Jackson Merrill), trading Arraez makes sense. His unique bat-to-ball skills would presumably drive demand up and get San Diego a good return.

#2. Re-sign Jurickson Profar

Jurickson Profar had his breakout year with the Padres. He is uniquely suited to their ballpark and hits better there. He also fills a need since he was their everyday left-fielder last year. Without him, they'd need to address that spot, and the easiest and perhaps best way to do that is just by bringing him back. He will cost more this time around, but he's not likely to break the bank.

#1. Trade for Garrett Crochet

The San Diego Padres have already traded for one ace from the Chicago White Sox, so they should do it again. Crochet is a hot commodity, but he fits the Padres well. They need pitching and don't want to send their payroll skyrocketing, which means that Corbin Burnes is likely not a candidate.

Crochet will cost a haul, but the Padres have the farm to make a move like this. With the Dodgers snagging Blake Snell, the Padres need to make a move to counter, and signing Crochet is a good one.
