5 crazy MLB stats from the 2024 season
#5. Miami Marlins used a record-breaking 70 players
The Miami Marlins had a 2024 season they would like to forget. While struggling to get anything going in the National League East division, they used a record-breaking 70 players in total. The previous record was held by the 2019 Seattle Mariners. During that year, they used 69 players.
#4. Four no-hit bids broken up by ninth-inning home runs
There have been four no-hit bids that have ended due to a home run in the ninth inning. This marks the most in history, with Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis being on the wrong end of this twice.
#3. Chicago White Sox - 121 losses
The Chicago White Sox were another team that struggled this past season. There was not a ton of hype going into the season and it got even worse as the team sold during the trade deadline. They finished the 2024 season losing 121 games, the most losses any team has had during MLB's Modern Era.
#2. Aaron Judge and Juan Soto's dominance
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto were an enigma for the New York Yankees this past season. They were a huge part of the team's offense, leading them to the World Series.
The two sluggers combined for 99 home runs, 253 runs batted in, and 262 walks. They are now the first pair of sluggers with over 40 home runs, 100 runs batted in, and 120 walks.
#1. Shohei Ohtani's 50-50 season
During the 2024 season, Shohei Ohtani showed MLB fans just how elite he was. In his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was used as the team's DH after an elbow procedure during last year's offseason.
Ohtani became the first MLB player in history to have slugged at least 50 home runs while stealing 50 or more bases. He finished the regular season with 59 homers and successfully swiped an astounding 54 bases. Ohtani is now the sole member of the 50-50 club.
