The Boston Red Sox failed to reach the postseason in 2024, however, the emergence of stars such as Jarren Duran, coupled with superstar Rafael Devers are an encouraging sign. The team could be primed to reach the postseason in 2025, especially if they are able to make some impact moves.
If the Boston Red Sox are going to make a playoff run, the team will need to fill several voids on its current roster. While the team was reportedly interested in adding Juan Soto, he ultimately signed with the New York Mets for a record-setting 15-year, $765 million deal, so now the Red Sox will need to pivot.
From hard-hitting outfielders to top pitching prospects, the Boston Red Sox have plenty of intriguing player options they can pursue in this offseason.
Here's a look at five players the Red Sox could look at in free agency after missing out on the Juan Soto sweepstakes
#1 Roki Sasaki
With Juan Soto no longer on the board, Roki Sasaki is arguably the most intriguing name on the market. The young Japanese pitcher is one of the most coveted players outside of the MLB and has been heavily-linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers, however, the Boston Red Sox could make a move for the potential superstar.
After being posted by his Japanese team, Sasaki could be a game-changing player who is not able to sign for a massive contract, which could help the Boston from a financial aspect.
#2 Teoscar Hernandez
Bringing Teoscar Hernandez into the fold could be a major move, however, after coming off an All-Star season, they will need to pay up. That being said, if the front office is able to reach an agreement with Hernandez, he could help the team return to the postseason and try and bring another title to the city.
#3 Paul Sewald
Paul Sewald could be an intriguing bullpen option for Boston this upcoming season. Sewald is coming off a rough season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, which could help the teams in terms of negotiations. Also, at this point of his career, Sewald could be looking to secure his first World Series title and a retooled Red Sox squad could give him the opportunity to do so.
#4 Eloy Jimenez
Eloy Jimenez's MLB career has not lived up to the hype that many had for him coming into the league. While injuries have plagued him throughout his career, when he is on the field, he has flashed some of that All-Star potential.
While he may need to accept a smaller role, entering a system such as the Red Sox's could unlock a new level that he never did with the Chicago White Sox.
#5 Yoan Moncada
Another former Chicago White Sox player who has failed to live up to his potential in the league, however, he could be another low-risk, high-reward addition for Boston. His defensive versatility could give the team some flexibilty throughout the year. As long as he can stay healthy, he could be an impact player. While this would be a reunion of sorts since Moncada played 20 games with the club back in 2016, this would give him a chance to live up to the promise he showed coming into the league.
