We are under two months away before the MLB regular season winds up. At this time, there's a good chance the postseason will be highly competitive, given the possibility that none of the teams might eclipse the 100-win mark, something that hasn't happened in the majors since 2014.
However, few teams are so far being outpaced by others in their bid to claim a postseason spot. Let's take a look at them.
5 teams who may not play in MLB postseason
1) Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox are the worst team in the MLB this season, currently holding a 30-95 record. Even if they win all their games from now on, they will still get nowhere near claiming a wildcard spot.
Amid the disastrous season, they have already fired second-year manager Pedro Grifol and replaced him with Grady Sizemore as interim manager for the remainder of the season.
2) Colorado Rockies
The Rockies are the second-worst team in the MLB with their 46-79 record. To make things even more miserable, they are in a highly competitive division in the NL West. All teams over them boast .500 or a better record. Similar to the White Sox, even if they win all their games from hereon, they won't make the postseason.
3) Miami Marlins
For the Marlins, this is another season to forget, and they are only going to get worse after offloading many of their stars at the trade deadline. They are 46-78 at the moment and aren't going to make the postseason even if they win the remainder of their games.
4) Los Angeles Angels
The Angels were an injury bug all season long, and their postseason drought will only continue. While star Mike Trout wants to win the World Series with LA, his unavailability due to injuries has been persistent over the last few years. Add Anthony Rendon to the fold, who is even worse in terms of presence.
The Angels are currently 53-71, and with Trout not available, nobody expects them to improve, let alone make the MLB postseason.
5) Oakland Athletics
The A's last year in Oakland would be another disappointing season. The team has a similar 53-71 record to that of the Angels, and the team's management is more concerned with their relocation move than they are with the team. Even at the trade deadline, they didn't seem much interested, which was surprising.
Nonetheless, the Athletics will likely bid farewell to Oakland for hosting them for all these years.
