8 MLB prospects to watch in 2025 ft. Coby Mayo and Jacob Wilson

The 2024 season saw many MLB prospects take significant steps toward stardom. Players such as Paul Skenes, Jackson Merrill, Jackson Chourio and Yoshinobu Yamamoto proved that the future of the league is in good hands while proving why they were such coveted young talents coming into the majors.

There is potential that 2025 could be much of the same as there are several intriguing prospects who could make an impact this season. Fans will need to wait and see how things play out during spring training, especially which prospects will earn opening day roster spots.

Here's a closer look at 8 MLB prospects to keep an eye on in 2025

#1, Coby Mayo

Although fans were given an underwhelming taste of Coby Mayo in 2024 as the infielder posted a .098 batting average over 17 games with the Baltimore Orioles, he is one of the top MLB prospects for a reason. The O's might need to sort out their infield, however, Mayo could make a significant impact when given his next MLB opportunity.

#2, Jacob Wilson

Unlike Coby Mayo, it appears that Jacob Wilson's role with the Athletics is cemented. Wilson appeared in 28 games in 2024 and proved why he has been considered one of the best pure hitters coming up through the minors. While he may never be much of a home run source, his ability to rack up hits makes him one of the must-watch MLB prospects heading into 2025.

#3, Jackson Jobe

Detroit Tigers fans were hoping to get a lot more of Jackson Jobe in 2024; however, what they did see from him likely has the club and their fans excited for his future. Jobe only threw 4.0 innings in 2024. However, he only allowed one hit while also recording a pair of strikeouts. Jobe could be an American League Rookie of the Year candidate if he cracks the opening day roster.

#4, Jasson Dominguez

Jasson Dominguez might be the most intriguing MLB prospect to keep tabs on heading into the 2025 campaign. Injuries have essentially held Dominguez back, as he could have already been an impact stud if he could stay healthy. In 26 MLB games, Dominguez has six home runs and could be a force in the New York Yankees lineup next to Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger.

#5, Kristian Campbell

The Boston Red Sox might truly have a future star on their hands when it comes to one of their top MLB prospects, Kristian Campbell. The versatile Campbell can play all over the field on defense and can rack up stats at the plate, posting a combined .330 batting average with 20 home runs, 77 RBIs and 24 stolen bases across multiple minor league levels in 2024.

#6, Colson Montgomery

It was a year to forget for the Chicago White Sox and their fans. However, the club has several young players who could soon make an impact in the majors. One of those prospects is Colson Montgomery. Even though he struggled in 2024, he showed some improvements in the Arizona Fall League, posting a .313 batting average. Montgomery could be a light in another rough season for Chicago.

Owen Caissie might still be raw in some aspects of the game, however, his ability to crush homers makes him one of the most intriguing MLB prospects who can make an immediate impact. It remains to be seen if he will crack the Chicago Cubs lineup to start the season. However, if he earns a promotion, he could be an x-factor for the club if he puts it all together.

This one might be cheating a bit since there is a chance that he doesn't sign with a club this offseason. However, Roki Sasaki has all of the tools to be a superstar in the Majors. The Japanese pitcher can continually hit triple-digits with his fastball and could become a star for whatever team he signs with.
