The San Diego Padres could look like a new team next season with the amount of free agents they have. They have nine players who are eligible to be on the open market this winter.
Some of these players have been key contributors in San Diego over the last few seasons. So, we take a look at who the club is in danger of losing this winter.
9 Padres players who are now free agents
1) Ha-Seong Kim
Ha-Seong Kim The Padres offered Ha-Seong Kim an $8 million mutual option to stay with the club next season, but he turned it down. He will head to the open market after ending his season in August due to right shoulder surgery.
2) Jurickson Profar
Jurickson Profar is coming off his best season in the Major Leagues. However, he was working on a one-year deal and is now a free agent. Profar has stated that he would love to stay in San Diego but both sides have to figure out the financials.
3) Nick Ahmed
Nick Ahmed had a bit of a wild year. He started the season with the San Francisco Giants but was released. He then signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was released. He then signed with the Padres at the end of August and finished the season there.
4) Elias Diaz
Elias Diaz started his season with the Colorado Rockies but had his contract selected by San Diego after being released. He is one of two catchers on this list who are now free agents.
5) Kyle Higashioka
Kyle Higashioka will be an interesting name on the open market. The catcher is coming off a great season and should be one of the top catchers available.
6) David Peralta
David Peralta was big for San Diego this past season. He stepped up when the club was without Fernando Tatis Jr. and held down his outfield spot. He could get a few calls given how well he patrolled the outfield.
7) Donovan Solano
Donovan Solano was great, especially coming off the bench. He was a bat the team could depend on if they needed a spark, but his postseason performance left more to be desired.
8) Martin Perez
Martin Perez was traded to the Padres in the middle of the season. After settling in with his new squad, he was a dependable arm. Across 10 starts, he held a 3-1 record with a 3.46 ERA.
9) Tanner Scott
Tanner Scott will be an interesting name on the open market. He is coming off a season where he made an All-Star Game appearance and should be one of the top relief options.
