Free agent third baseman Alex Bregman flexed some muscle, showing off his intense offseason workout regimen in his latest social media post.
In an IG slide show, Bregman did not pull any punches, demonstrating how he stays in shape during the winter. Bregman can be seen running, lifting weights, and doing various conditioning exercises, both in the gym and outdoors.
The caption on the post read:
"Chop your own wood and it will warm you twice."
Like most top players in the Majors, Alex Bregman spends part of his offseason time working on strength training and conditioning. In doing so, Bregman will likely show up in Spring Training ready to hit the ground running.
The only question is: What team will he play for when Spring Training rolls around?
While the answer to that question is still uncertain, one thing is: Alex Bregman isn’t wasting any time sitting by, waiting for the phone to ring.
Red Sox waiting out Alex Bregman this offseason
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal shared his views on the rumored negotiations between the Boston Red Sox and Alex Bregman.
Rosenthal made the comments in an appearance he made on the January 13 edition of "Foul Territory." In the podcast, Rosenthal commented the following:
“I believe what's happening is that the Red Sox are simply saying 'we don't think he's going to Toronto, we don't think Detroit is going to sign him, we're gonna take our chances that no one else will, and we are going to leverage this and negotiate as hard as possible,'”
The comments underscore the tactic Boston is pursuing, hopefully leaving Bregman with no options as Spring Training looms. The Red Sox can then swoop in and get Bregman at the price point they want.
Rosenthal doubled down on his point, stating:
"The problem is, they still might not get Bregman, and we're not exactly sure whether the front office wants to commit to Bregman."
If reports are to be believed, the Red Sox are very much in on Bregman. However, his asking price may be too high for them at this point. Hence, it would make sense for Boston to wait out Bregman, hoping his asking price will eventually come down.
Whether Bregman signs with Boston is about as uncertain as his return to the Houston Astros. In the meantime, it seems that the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers may be waiting to see who blinks first before making a move.
