Although his playing days are far behind him, former Yankee Alex Rodriguez would not miss the chance to see his ex-club compete for their 28th title. As such, the former MVP was on-site ahead of Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.
Although he was there as an analyst for the FOX Sports panel, A-Rod did not miss the chance to greet a friend of his - who also happens to be tennis royalty.
Before the LA Dodgers took to the field, Rodriguez shared a picture of him embracing Billie Jean King on the playing surface. Regarded as one of the top female tennis players of all time, King and A-Rod share a friendship, with the former MLB star describing the meeting by saying "The legend is back."
Born in 1943, King is a former World No. 1 ranked tennis player. The winner of 39 Grand Slam tennis titles, King also made great strides for gender equality in sports and is widely known for her victory in the 1973 "Battle of the Sexes" that saw her topple Tennis Hall of Famer Bobby Riggs.
Both are regarded highly in their respective sports, and this is not the first time that Rodriguez and King have crossed paths. In early October, A-Rod hosted the tennis great on his podcast, The Deal. An admirer of King, Rodriguez dubbed her "The GOAT" after the culmination of her podcast appearance.
"Happy birthday to fellow Long Beach, California native and fellow Long Beach Polytechnic High School graduate, the one and only @SnoopDogg" - Billie Jean King
A member of the New York Yankees from 2004 until 2016, Rodriguez was part of the last cadre of Yankees to win a title in 2009. He did so alongside teammate Derek Jeter, who now appears beside Alex Rodriguez on the FOX panel.
Alex Rodriguez is living his best life in retirement
In addition to rubbing shoulders with sports royalty like Billie Jean King, A-Rod is also an entrepreneur. However, his new partner, Jaclyn Cordeiro, is his main occupation. As the former MVP recently told the New York Post about his relationship:
“She’s been a good influence with me, “I’ve been working hard and trying to stay in shape, and continuing to try to copy some of her great work ethic and health and wellness practices"
With a laundry list of big names set to attend the remaining games of the season, Alex Rodriguez will undoubtedly be there to greet a great many of them.
