Truist Park’s History/ Truist Park Construction and Cost

The Atlanta Braves used to play at Turner Field between 1996-2016. Originally constructed for the Summer Olympics in 1996, it was later changed to a baseball stadium. However, the team faced a lot of problems like less parking space and fewer fans. Moreover, the Mayor of Atlanta also rejected the team’s plan’s for stadium renovations as they spent their funds in constructing the Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). However, demands for a new baseball stadium continued to increase and a site next to the highway interchange was agreed upon in 2013. The construction for the stadium started on September 16, 2014. SunTrust Bank in Atlanta purchased the naming rights of the stadium for 25 years. However, in 2019, the company merged with BB&T Bank and formed Truist Financial Corporation. Thus, the stadium was named Truist Park. The stadium was opened to the public on April 8, 2017 for a collegiate baseball game with the first MLB game being played on April 14, 2017.

Truist Park is notable for having the highest percentage of seats closer to the field than any other MLB stadium. It has air conditioners and a canopy 27 meters wide which helps in keeping the environment cool during summer. LED lights are also available throughout the stadium. An important feature of the stadium is the Chattahoochee Falls, a waterfall with boulders and evergreen trees next to the center field wall. There are many hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities here like the Coca-Cola Roxy developed by Live Nation, a concert promoter.
