Truist Park’s History/ Truist Park Construction and Cost
The Atlanta Braves used to play at Turner Field between 1996-2016. Originally constructed for the Summer Olympics in 1996, it was later changed to a baseball stadium. However, the team faced a lot of problems like less parking space and fewer fans. Moreover, the Mayor of Atlanta also rejected the team’s plan’s for stadium renovations as they spent their funds in constructing the Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). However, demands for a new baseball stadium continued to increase and a site next to the highway interchange was agreed upon in 2013. The construction for the stadium started on September 16, 2014. SunTrust Bank in Atlanta purchased the naming rights of the stadium for 25 years. However, in 2019, the company merged with BB&T Bank and formed Truist Financial Corporation. Thus, the stadium was named Truist Park. The stadium was opened to the public on April 8, 2017 for a collegiate baseball game with the first MLB game being played on April 14, 2017.
Truist Park is notable for having the highest percentage of seats closer to the field than any other MLB stadium. It has air conditioners and a canopy 27 meters wide which helps in keeping the environment cool during summer. LED lights are also available throughout the stadium. An important feature of the stadium is the Chattahoochee Falls, a waterfall with boulders and evergreen trees next to the center field wall. This has a fountain of 50 feet which splashes dancing waters as the Atlanta Braves team members score home runs or wins home games. The Monument Garden in the stadium highlights the most memorable moments from the team’s history. This area is further made attractive through the use of water, lights and audio. The Truist Park also has a commercial hub next to it called The Battery Atlanta. The field surface in the stadium has been constructed using Seashore Paspalum, Platinum TE. The left field is 335 feet and the left center field is 385 feet. The right field is 325 feet and the right center field is 375 feet. The center field is 400 feet. The Atlanta Braves have advised their fans to pre-purchase parking lots before coming to Truist Park. Fans can use the Waze app, the official partner of the Atlanta Braves for easy navigation. The team has also provided the parking prices for buses and other oversized vehicles parking. If Lot 29 is available, parking price will be $45 per vehicle. For parking RV’s in Braves Lot 29 and Lot 43, if they are available, the price will be $60 per vehicle. Buses can be parked for free if they have a parking pass that is valid.
For The Battery Atlanta, parking for visitors is free upto 3 hours before 2 pm and upto 2 hours after 2 pm. If the vehicles are parked more than 2 hours after 2 pm, fans will have to pay around $50.
Moreover, if any vehicle is found unattended in any Atlanta Braves operated parking lot three hours after a game, it will be towed and the owner will be responsible. Vehicles found at Battery Red Dock or Battery Orange Dock at 3 am will be towed unless the owner contacts Battery Atlanta Security. Similarly, unattended vehicles in the Delta Deck will also be towed unless the owner contacts Atlanta Braves Security.
