Baseball: Cub fans disliking Epstein lack intelligence

Louie

The fact that some Cub “fans” don’t want Theo Epstein shows their stupidity and shortsightedness.

When news started to break of Theo Epstein joining the Cubs after agreeing to a 5 year deal at around $20 million, I thought Cubbie optimism would be overflowing. I was wrong. Once again, some Cub “fans” don’t want the guy that was in charge of ending Boston’s title drought astonishes me. Sure, the ’04 & ’07 Red Sox had a team loaded with juicers, but find me a team from the late 90?s to the present who wasn’t carried by a roided up freak show. You can’t, so don’t bother. This is the biggest thing that has happened to the Cubs in my lifetime. Sorry, but I don’t count the playoff failures of ’84, ’89, ’98, ’03, ’07 & ’08 as some kind of accomplishment.

Finally, this organization has a man in place that has a vision and knows what he wants this entire operation to look like. Gone are the days of throwing big free agent money around to appease the stupid fan base and give false hope every November & December. The mess the Cubs are in is because of the incompetent ass-hat that Epstein is replacing. Do you think Theo will ever draft a Notre Dame wide receiver in the 5th round and give him a no-trade clause and a contract that could top out at $16.5 million? I hope you’re not that baseball stupid.

Mind you, 2010 number 1 overall pick Bryce Harper signed a 5 year $9.9 million deal with the Nationals. Where was I?

Oh yea… The funny part about some of the Theo haters is that they don’t have a better option in mind. Instead of embracing one of baseball’s brightest young minds, they’d rather bitch and moan without giving you who they want instead. And just when I thought this town couldn’t get any dumber. It’s unbelievable.

Allow me to map out what this Epstein hires means for the future of this franchise. I’ll make it as remedial as possible for those who think this is “a bad fit.”

One, he instantly gives the Cubs the name hire that could help Tom Ricketts get the $300 million tax money that he so desperately needs to renovate Wrigley. Rahm Emanuel has let it be known that he is open to helping the Cubs out, if you will, in getting the cash needed for this project.

Two, once the renovations are done, that means more income for the team. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Are you still with me?

If you’ve seen the images of what a renovated Wrigley would look like from foul pole to foul pole, it’s pretty exciting. Gone will be the days of getting trampled trying to leave the park after a game.

Three, with that added revenue comes more money to spend on players. And more money spent on players & player development means the better your team is. Is this easy enough to understand, cargo short wearing Cubs fan? Good. Because I am losing brain cells by the minute writing this.

Once Theo builds this organization the way he wants & Wrigley is renovated, the impatient Cubs fans should finally start to comprehend this signing. It’s going to take time, and Theo has a hell of a project in front of him. This won’t be the Dusty Baker-like quick fix of ’03. This will be an arduous process, but the Cubs finally have the right man for the job. Let’s just hope the baseball imbeciles don’t throw a drunken fit if they don’t see an immediate turnaround.
