Legendary actor, the late James Earl Jones, talked about the sport of baseball and his movie 'Field Of Dreams', where Jones plays the role of Terrence Mann.
The film is about how Ray (Kevin Costner), builds a baseball diamond in his cornfield in Iowa and the events that unfold next. Released on May 5, 1989, the film recieved positive reviews from critics and was nominated for three academy awards - Best Picture, Best Original score and Best adapted screenplay.
It was also selected for preservation in United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017. (via Field of Dreams Wiki). In an interview uploaded to the DMRegister Youtube channel on Monday, Jones spoke philosophically about the sport. (1:33).
"Baseball, for this country, for this whole society, is what lets us know what is good, and what will be good again. The simplicity of baseball, the fact that it's a team. There's no hero on the team, but they're all heroes.
"Every hero gets his shot, depending on where the ball lands or what part of the bat makes contact with the ball. It's a very random game, almost like the metaphysics of space, or the solar system."
James Earl Jones dies at the age of 93
Often described as one of the finest actors in American History, James Earl Jones breathed his last rearly on Monday morning, aged 93. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, his representative said.
In a stellar career, Jones won two Emmy awards, a Grammy and an Academy Award for lifetime achievement in 2011, alongside many other honors.
He was one of the few actors to complete the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony). James is repsonsible for voicing iconic characters like Darth Vader (Star Wars) and Mufasa (Lion King).
